Earl Ray Tomblin Industrial Park, 13 Gaston Caperton Dr.
Holden, WV 25625
The Southwestern Regional Jail sits high atop one of the picturesque mountains of Southern West Virginia. Located in Holden, West Virginia, this facility is the sixth of ten regional jails to be built in the State. The facility, which started receiving inmates on April 8, 1998, has a podular design, consisting of three pods housing approximately one hundred inmates each with an upgradeable maximum capacity of five hundred, for both male and female inmates. This regional jail serves a three county area consisting of Boone, Logan, and Mingo counties. Source:WVRJA.com
In addition, the facility contains a separate computerized booking area, state-of-the-art, closed-circuit “Courtroom of the Future,” a 24-hour medical unit, a full-time teacher, a counseling staff, and much more. This facility is staffed with 81 uniformed correctional officers and approximately 25 non-uniformed personnel. Our uniformed staff is one of a military-style rank structure and it is primarily overseen by an Administrator, a Chief Correctional Officer, and a 1st Sergeant.
There is plenty to offer during every season of the year in the area of the Southwestern Regional Jail, such as the Logan County Arts and Crafts Fair, Kiwanis Club of Logan's Lone Star Rodeo, an outdoor drama (“The Aracoma Story” at Liz Spurlock Amphitheater), Civil War Re-enactments, annual Christmas in the Park, Coalfield Jamboree, scenic Chief Logan State Park, Southern West Virginia Hunting and Fishing Show, Logan County Airport's Annual Air Show, Hatfield-McCoy ATV trail rides (with three hundred miles of trail), Chapmanville Apple Butter Festival, Logan's Main Street Fair, the City of Logan's West Virginia Harvest Festival, and plenty of fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities.
